Entry Fees

The NE-4D understands that payouts will vary for different events based on multiple factors such as arena rent, tractor fee, cost of barrel setters, etc.  We do recommend a payout of at least 75% of the entry fee.  More can be paid out at the producer’s discretion.  For example:  if your entry fee is $30 then $22.50 ($30 x 75%) of each entry goes into the payout.  The remaining $7.50 is used by the producer to pay the expenses of the barrel race (i.e., arena rent, barrel setters, timer fee, $1 fee per entry to the NE-4D, etc.).  If you need more that 25% of the entry fee to cover yours costs, it is recommended that you charge an Office Charge or an Arena Fee and clearly identify it as an Office Charge or Arena Fee on your entry form.  In our experience contestants don’t mind paying an Office Charge or Arena Fee if it’s reasonable and clearly identified as such.  We understand that producing a barrel race has specific costs and we want to ensure your costs are covered.  We value you and the time and energy you put into producing quality barrel racing events.  We appreciate your approving with the NE-4D!

The following information is used for the NE-4D Finals. As a producer, we recommend that you use these age guidelines for your event, but they are not mandatory and we also want you to feel free to use your own discretion based on your event. 7 and under for Pee Wees is standard; however you may see the need for variance in the Youth class age range and payout whether on a full second split or half second split

Open Class
  • The Open Class is open to all competitors regardless of age. A youth can run in both the Youth Class and the Open Class. If an event allows - Youth may carry over from the Youth to Open OR the Open to Youth that is permissible.
  • The Open Class is paid out on a 4D format. The 1D will be set by the fastest time of the Open Class. The 2D, 3D and 4D will be determined by adding 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 seconds to the fastest time respectively.
Youth Class
  • The Youth class will be run in a 4D format with one (0.5) second splits between each division. The 1D will be set by the fastest time of the Youth class and the 2D, 3D and 4D divisions being -0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 seconds respectively off the fastest time. Runs with penalties (i.e., hit barrel or broken pattern) will be a "no time".
  • Producers are not required to have a youth class but may if they choose to.
  • NE 4D State Finals Eligibility: The youth must be 13 or under on the first day of the State Finals and have competed in a least one regular season NE NE 4-D approved race in the Youth class as a paid member prior to October 1st of the current year.

Pee Wee Class
  • The Pee Wee class is for kids 7 and under the day of the barrel race. The entry fee for the Pee Wee class will be $5 with a 100% payback. If a Pee Wee would rather run in the Youth 8-13 age class, they may do so. However, kids 7 & under may only compete in one age restricted class either the Pee Wee or Youth a a barrel race.
  • Producers are not required to have the Pee Wee class but may if they choose to.
  • Payout for the Pee Wee class is at the producer's descretion.
  • At the NE 4-D Finals the Pee Wee class will receive prizes
  • NE 4-D State Finals Eligibility: The Pee Wee must be 7 or under the first day of the State Finals, have purchased a Youth membership and have competed in the Pee Wee division of at least one (1) regular season NE 4-D approved barrel race as a paid Youth member prior to October 1st of current year.
  • NOTE: A Youth membership is required because a Pee Wee may compete as either a Pee Wee or a Youth (but not both) at the NE 4-D State Finals event.

The 2024 NE 4-D Finals are scheduled for October 18-20, 2024 at the Custer County Fairgrounds indoor arena in Broken Bow, NE. There will be added money each day (which comes from all memberships dues) – in 2023 there was $4,000 added on Saturday and $4,000 added on Sunday for the Open run. Prizes to the top 10 in the average in each division (covered by the awards fee at each NE 4-D approved race). The average is the combined time of the Saturday and Sunday barrel races. There was also $250 added on Saturday and $250 added on Sunday for the Youth class. Prizes will also be given to youth placing in the average. We have as much added money in 2024 as we did in 2023. The NE 4-D State Finals is a "clean slate" barrel race event. No points will be kept or used to determine standings or qualification to the event. To be eligible to compete in the 2024 NE 4D Finals an individual must be a member of the NE 4-D Association in good standing and have competed in at least one (1) approved barrel race between October 1, 2023 and September 30, 2024.

There will be a NE 4-D Finals Warm-Up Race held on Friday, October 20, 2024 the evening before the Saturday/Sunday State Finals barrel races. In 2023 there was $1000 added to the Open. We have as much added money in 2024 as we did in 2023. An individual does not have to be a member to compete in the NE 4-D Warm-Up Race.

Quick Facts to Consider:

  • Barrels must conform to a standard 55 gallon barrel
  • Electronic timers must be used.
